THE PLANT-BASED OIL CREATS ECO-FRIENDLY INSOLE

Commitment from Day 1: Sourcing non-food grade bio source On the sustainable journey, one of our biggest commitments is to continue developing materials that can further reduce product carbon footprint. DSC continue to find sustainable resources that is non-food source which doesn’t compete with animal’s food chain and reduce the dependence on petroleum-based material. One of the commonly used bio material in making our foam is the Castor Bean bio oil.  Dreamcell BIO E25: 20% bio content  You will find Most of our open-cell PU foam families contain at least 6-20% bio content in variety. The plant-based bio-oil made from castor beans greatly reduces the use of petroleum, furtherly reduce less amount of carbon emission.  DSC's Dreamcell BIO E25 contains at least 20% castor bean oil. Inside the lab, our developers were able to maintain Dreamcell’s cushioning and softness while adding higher percent of bio-oil in to the foaming process. The Dreamcell BIO E25 is not the only footbed that contains bio-oil, Read the story how we turn spent coffee grounds to a comfort footwear, and how we turn the harmful algae bloom to a greener, sustainable footbed.  On our sustainability journey, we are aware that waste is a big contribution to carbon emission in our industry supply chain. DSC is committed to minimize the amount of material we use in product manufacturing process, to create lighter products, and less waste. This is done through two practices: by adding recycled waste in product production, and by adding bio material that is non-food source. We continue to provide better and sustainable product to brand customers and to the athletes around the world.

Back to the Basics; The 3 R’s of Making Foam Sustainably

Reducing Our Reliance on Fossil Fuels DSC intends to do all we can to play the role of a good corporate global citizen. That includes the reduction of our use of fossil fuel-based oils. Primarily, this is done by replacing these scarce resources with recycled production foam waste, and bio oils. Reduce. Reuse. Regrind. At DSC, we have been incorporating sustainable manufacturing practices, perhaps before sustainability was a commonly used term.  Since our beginnings in the 1940s we have continually strived to find manufacturing processes that lead to the most efficient use of materials. These practices include the gathering of any usable foam waste from in-house foam production or from our finished goods partners, recycle that waste and turn it into a new opportunity to create. We screen the waste carefully, sort by color and regrind into pellets or powder form. This process allows us to: 1) Reduce DSC's waste footprint, 2) Reuse manufacturing waste, and 3) Regrind into new colorful pellets or powder which can then be used in future sustainable foam batches.   3R Foam –  Lower Carbon Footprint with Uncompromised Performance DSC produces various 3R foams in all of our foam families:   Dreamcell, Durapontex, and Ecotech.  Our 3R foam series contains at least 20% eco content which includes at least 10% of recycled waste. Currently our highest recycled content in 3R foam selection contains at least 70% eco content which is found in our Durapontex Supreme series. We continue to innovate premium sustainable foam products that produce less carbon, yet still deliver the highest level of comfort along with uncompromised performance.

Turning The Harmful Algae Bloom to Comfort Footbeds

Our commitment to sustainable product is at the heart of what we do At DSC, we continuously look for sustainable material to help ensure a healthy planet for us all and future generations. A key piece of this work revolves around the search for bio-based materials that can help lower or dependence on fossil-fuels to make our products. Durapontex BIO is a product offering that leverages the innovation of adding material derived from the harvesting of harmful algae blooms from some of the world’s most compromised waterways.   Why Algae? DSC have partnered with the world’s leading algae harvesters who harvest harmful algae that are polluting water sources to create a usable footwear foam product instead.  By harvesting the algae, it removes harmful and toxic algae growth, recirculates the fresh water back and results in keeping the ecology of the waterways in balance.  The algae need carbon dioxide from the air to grow, and locks it away in a solid biomass. This means using harvest algae not only reduces the CO2 emission, but also lowers the use on petroleum.   It feels green, it looks green, and it performs green Made with 20% harvested, harmful algae blooms, Durapontex BIO is a closed-cell EVA foam that maintains DSC’s high-performance standards for our materials while lowering our fossil-fuel reliance.  Developed as an underfoot foam solution, Durapontex BIO is available in a broad spectrum of hardnesses and densities based on our customer’s needs. Under or wide umbrella of capabilities, we have in-house processes which allow us to combine Durapontex BIO with textiles and logo designs to create customized components in both die cut and molded constructions. Oh, and did we mention it comes in a beautiful shade of green?
